Working With Little Ones: A Three Part Series

Part one: building the body (Katherine Ukleja)
part two: birth odyssey (Dominic Degranges)
part three: echoes of the womb (Cherionna Menzam-Sills)

Starting NOVEMBER 2019 • New York City

This three-part series will explore the deep formative forces that create a human being and the miraculous journey from conception, fetal development, birth and the first years of life. This unique program will give students the rare opportunity to learn about these energies and how to meet them in ourselves, our adult clients and working with babies and their families. Explore this exciting territory with three leading experts in the field. Students will need to participate in all three parts and must have completed a Foundation Training.

In this special seminar, we will explore how our clients’ and our own very early experience in the womb may enter into session work, and how we can meet these energies to facilitate health in ourselves and in our clients.

We have all been born. For many of us, our time in the womb, during birth and postnatally were not as easy, gentle and nourishing as we needed. Little ones in the womb and until at the age of three, process life more slowly than adults. They depend on caregivers for nourishment, protection, nervous system regulation, and survival. They are also exquisitely sensitive, aware and capable of perceiving and communicating with the world around them. When events happen too quickly or insensitively, babies have few options. They tend to withdraw into dissociative states, which often present again in session work.

We will review:

  • Specific important prenatal embryological and psychological events and challenges, with potential effects on body and psyche, including conception, implantation, heart folding and ignition. Discussion of the potential impact of modern assisted reproductive technology on parents and baby

  • The significance of the perception of relational safety and support within the field of the birthing parent and baby, effects of stress, and umbilical affect

  • Potential birth interventions and traumas as well as possible lifelong effects

  • Potential effects of postpartum interventions, separation and bonding

  • Our hidden embryological potential, how to access it through our awareness and gentle fluid body movement

We will explore:

  • How to recognize early pre-, peri- or post-natal material arising in session work or life

  • How to take care of ourselves as practitioners when our own early material arises

  • Verbal and trauma skills helpful in meeting early trauma and parental trauma/stress arising in session work, including supporting social engagement nervous system awakening within a safe relational field

  • Gentle birth process work

  • Table session work relating to specific prenatal/embryological events
