at Stillpoint we have a strong commitment to our community of practitioners and students.

Stillpoint Talks

Stillpoint presents ongoing talks on subjects related to Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy. This is a wonderful opportunity to expand our skill and to deepen as practitioners in working with our clients. Speakers are experts in their field and wonderful practitioners. They will bring insight and support for us as practitioners as we navigate complex issues that arise with our clients and challenges we face as practitioners. This is a wonderful opportunity to continue to expand and build our community and to immerse ourselves into this wonderful work that we do together. We look forward to seeing many of you again and to meeting other practitioners in the field.

ON THE ORIGINS OF OSTEOPATHY WITH Elizabeth Newman

The roots of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy lie in Osteopathy, which its founder said is rooted in "laws of nature as old as time itself." An origin story orients us and provides a fulcrum of stability in our work and path when we feel uncertain, lonely, or unsure of our next steps. My hope for this talk is to inspire and remind you that even in the darkest times, there is hope and there are people who can inspire us to maintain our moral courage. A.T. Still was one such character during a time of rampant disease, slavery, and war.

Since the fall of 2023, Elizabeth has taken on a personal side project to understand the origins of osteopathy, particularly the untold story of A.T. Still's meeting with the Shawnee tribe in the Kansas Territory in the 1850s. Her research has taken her to Kirksville, Missouri, the home of the original school of Osteopathy; to Oklahoma to meet with the tribes; to Kansas to visit the Mission Schools; and to Ohio, the Shawnee's ancestral lands. She is currently synthesizing this work with support from the tribe.
